DAY 80

WW III

Croatia - Bosnia & Herzegovina

After a couple of days of resting in the Hostel, I decided to start hitchhiking to Medjugorje and I arrived there the same day. It was raining so so bad and it gets quite cold here in these regions, never expected this. (no technology, no planning and not checking the weather .... Lessons learned here)

Anyway Medugorje was a special experience.

'For over 20 years now, in Medjugorje, Bosnia-Herzegovina six trustworthy witnesses, testify firmly under oath, that since the 24th of June 1981, the Blessed Virgin Mary, or "Gospa", as she is affectionately known as here, appears to them every day up to the present.'

Somewhere around 30 million pilgrims have visited Medjugorje, and so it became quite touristic with a lot of shops hotels and every house in the town you can knock on the door and people rent their rooms.
After this Sarajevo, they told me it is beautiful and really going back in time.

The old town center of Sarajevo, I love(d) it. It has so much history about 'the great war, WWI'.
History lesson : when Franz Ferdinand got killed and so triggered the great war, he got killed on a square in the old town. I like this kind of History. Also interesting to see that the Religion is divided here, a lot of Muslims and Mosques, Orthodox and Catholics.

The Ottoman conquest of Bosnia and Herzegovina was a process that started roughly in 1384, when the first Ottoman attacks on the Kingdom of Bosnia took place. In 1463, the Kingdom fell to the Ottomans, and this territory came under its firm control. Herzegovina fell to the Ottomans in 1482. It took another century for the western parts of today's Bosnia to succumb to Ottoman attacks, ending with the capture of Bihać in 1592.

The balkan countries have an very interesting history.

I still feel sick so I am sleeping in Hostels for the moment. Outside the temperature at night is around 5 degrees celcius and getting colder. So hostels seems like a good plan for the moment.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Special thanks to Hostel Yeti in Makarska (Croatia) for the hospitality!
Be sure to swing by when around, friendly people :)

Latin Bridge
This is the square where Franz Ferdinand, Archduke of Austria, got killed.
It happened at the place of the Museum, at the pedestrian crossing

Eastern Europe in 1910
the Serbian Assassins, the one in the middle killed Franz Ferdinand

The exact spot where the murder happened.

They told me his driver made a mistake and turned in a wrong street. Back then the cars couldn't drive backwards so people start pushing the car back and then
